Alex Dunn
Alex Dunn was born in Glasgow. At the age of seven his family moved up to the Highlands, in the North of Scotland, where he has lives and works. He studied at Aberdeen University in the early 70’s, graduating with a honours degree in History and since 1992 he worked in the romantic business of building and trading harp instruments.
Comming from an artistic family, with his mother being a potter and his father a peripatetic art teacher, Dunn grew up surrounded by art and and merged by artistic processes. He received a solid grounding in art history and its techniques from an early age. This ‘alternative’ training has greatly influenced and enriched his artistic practice. His work ranges from wooden sculptures to tile-like collages of abstract compositions with a three-dimentional quality to them.
Dunn has exhibited extensively throughout Scotland, the UK and abroad. He has taken part in many respected annual exhibitions including those at the Royal Glasgow Institute, The Scottish Society of Artists, The Royal Scottish Academy, Visual Arts Scotland and the Paisley Arts Institute. He has also exhibited extensivelly with local artists groups, illustrating his long-term contribution to the art community in the Highlands.
