Pascale Taurua
Pascale was born in the pacific island New Caledonia in 1960. At eighteen years old she was crowned Miss France but she quickly realised this life style wasn’t for her and returned to the quiet pacific islands to pursue her passion for painting. Leaving “the crown for a brush”.
She studied at the Conservatory of Arts in Papeete, Tahiti where she had her first exhibition.
In 1986, she won the prize art competition organized by The Rotary Club in Noumea as well the one in 2008 in the city of Pau in France.
In the 2010, she met Frank Janca, Christoff Debusschère and François Legrand, known painters from the school in Estampe whose Master was François Lejeune. This was the turning point, giving a new energy to her work.
In 2005, Pascale chose to settle permanently in mainland France. There, she teaches painting in Paris and south-°©‐west France. In 2016 Pascale joined Urbane Art Gallery, the first gallery to represent her in the UK.
Her work is unique in the sense that has influences from the Pacific lifestyle while evolving in the urban scene of Europe.
“We know that aesthetics is incompatible with the contemporary movement, but for me the "aesthetic" word designates neither a theory of reception, or the appreciation of a work of art, it involves a personal experience of encounter with the presence sensitive events.
A car accident partially disfigured me leaving me some asymmetry on my face. Therefore, I chose those women who reflect this perfection of symmetry in order to use it as a "mask" to try to recover mine.
I paint to find a balance, not only on canvas but also within myself.”
