Natasha Barnes
Natasha Barnes is a South African self-taught artist, born in 1969. She has been painting since the age of seven and her natural talent, passion and discipline, led her to develop a profound style in her work and secured her a successful career as a prolific artist. She was a finalist for the British Artist of the Year Award exhibiting at the Mall Gallery in 2017.
Barnes’ dynamic use of colour and texture, created via sophisticated mark making, evokes a sense of fluidity, movement and thoughts. Her abstract work is inspired by the rich surroundings of her African lifestyle. Every painting is a mood, a reflection, a feeling, an experience, transferred onto the canvas through water-based paint and confident brush-strokes. Her subject dictates the flow of the paint and with that forms take on an element of the unreal, moving into the world of abstraction. Her work can be found in numerous corporate and private collections around the world.
